Nonprofit organizations across the country are navigating a period of significant uncertainty. Economic pressures, shifting philanthropic priorities, increased competition for charitable dollars, and growing community needs have made it more challenging than ever to sustain programs and activities that serve the public good.

At the Mary Powell Foundation (aka MPFUSA.org), we are not immune to these realities. Like many mission-driven organizations, we continually work to balance limited resources with expanding opportunities to make a meaningful difference. Yet throughout these challenges, our commitment remains unchanged. We believe that the values that inspired our work in the beginning—service, community, compassion, and inclusion—are needed now more than ever.

Inspiration Orlando United

History teaches us that periods of challenge often create opportunities for innovation, partnership, and impact. One such opportunity has emerged through our role as Fiscal Sponsor for internationally recognized mural artist Michael Pilato and the remarkable community project known as Inspiration Orlando United.

Created in response to the tragic Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando on June 12, 2016, the mural stands as a powerful testament to resilience, healing, and unity. It honors the survivors, remembers the victims, and celebrates the extraordinary compassion demonstrated by families, first responders, and community members who came together in the aftermath of unimaginable loss.

What began as a local expression of solidarity has grown into something much larger. Through the support of an AARP grant, assistance from the Mary Powell Foundation, and the contributions of many dedicated individuals and organizations, the mural has continued its journey beyond Orlando, carrying its message of hope to new audiences.

Most recently, the mural has been displayed in New York City at the Church of the United Nations on East 42nd Street near Second Avenue, where visitors from around the world have had the opportunity to experience its message. Soon, the mural will begin the next chapter of its journey with an exhibition in State College, Pennsylvania, near the campus of Penn State University. Later this summer or fall, it is expected to return to a new venue in New York City, continuing its mission of bringing people together through art and shared humanity.

The World Mural

The mural is also an important part of a broader international initiative known as The World Mural, a project dedicated to inspiring unity among diverse peoples and cultures around the globe. At a time when division often dominates headlines, the mural reminds us that communities are strongest when they embrace understanding, respect, and cooperation.

Fiscal Sponsor Partnership

For MPFUSA.org, our involvement in this project reflects the very essence of our mission. Fiscal sponsorship is more than an administrative function—it is a way to help important projects grow, reach new audiences, and create lasting impact. By supporting visionary artists, community leaders, and collaborative initiatives, we help transform ideas into opportunities that strengthen communities and inspire positive change.

Gratefulness & Optimism Looking Forward

As we face the challenges of our time, we remain optimistic about the future. The same circumstances that test nonprofit organizations also reveal new possibilities for partnership, creativity, and service. Projects like Inspiration Orlando United demonstrate that even in the wake of tragedy, people can come together to create something that uplifts, heals, and inspires.

We are grateful to Michael Pilato, our partners, supporters, donors, volunteers, and everyone who has helped make this journey possible. Together, we continue to prove that where there are challenges, there are also opportunities—and where there is unity, there is hope.

We look forward to sharing more updates as the mural continues its journey and expands its reach as a symbol of healing, inclusion, and global community
