MPF served as a fiscal sponsor for a project led by Alessandra Koenig, originally a native of Lima, Peru, now living and pursuing her masters in San Diego, CA. The Echo+ goal was to deliver Sanitary Water Kits and how-to information to help reduce the incidence of gastrointestinal illness and diarrhea (shockingly, the #2 cause of early childhood deaths) in rural areas of Peru. Alessandra’s echo+ Team had previously made a trip to Puno, Peru, where they conducted a workshop at a local school and provided the kits to children and families. The success of that endeavor inspired echo+ to ramp up their effort by raising money to deliver enough kits to help 100 more children, families and schools understand the problem and have the supplies to ensure the use of clean, uncontaminated water. The kits also provide the basic ingredients for Oral Rehydration Therapy (ORT), which combines clean water, sugar and salt to replenish critical levels of sodium and electrolytes in a child’s weakened system.
With help from MPF, echo+ was able to surpass their goal of raising $1,000 in 60 days for 100 Sanitary Kits and will now be able to help 50% more families than they initially set out to. Visit the echo+ project’s website here: http://www.EchoWith.Us
